Justicia Marin

Electronic board with conformal coating next to an uncoated one, with connectors and pin strips kept free of coating

Conformal coating for electronic assemblies

Justicia Marin is a B2B supplier of conformal coating (tropicalisation) for electronic boards and assemblies, for manufacturers and integrators. We start from your drawing, sample or specification: you define which areas must be coated and which must stay free, and we coordinate the supply with specialised manufacturers.

What it is and what sets it apart

Conformal coating: a thin layer, not a block of resin

Conformal coating consists of applying a thin protective film on the surface of an electronic board or assembly, covering only the areas defined for the project. In electronics, tropicalisation is the term commonly used in Spanish for applying a conformal coating. Unlike potting, which occupies or fills a volume, the coating follows the surface without appreciably increasing the size of the assembly. The protection achieved is not a fixed property: it depends on the material, the coverage defined and the expected environment.

  • Surface protection without appreciable increase in volume
  • Only the areas defined for the project are coated
  • The interfaces that must stay free are agreed before production
  • The approved criterion is documented so that it can be repeated

If the requirement is to fill a cavity or embed an area instead of coating the surface, it corresponds to potting and encapsulation. The process itself is detailed on the capability page for coating application.

Decision criteria

What conditions the conformal coating solution

There is no universal coating. What defines the solution is what has to be covered, what must stay free, with which material and what must be possible afterwards.

Coverage and free areas

Which areas must be coated and which must remain uncoated. Exclusion zones can be defined so that connectors, contacts or other interfaces stay free through masking.

Expected environment

What the equipment will be exposed to: humidity, condensation, industrial atmosphere or outdoor weather. The environment is not a promise of result; it is the data that makes it possible to define what protection the project needs.

Material and compatibility

The coating material must coexist with the components, the surface and the assembly process. If it is already specified in your documentation, that reference is coordinated; if not, it is defined with the manufacturer according to the requirements.

Rework and maintenance

If the assembly must allow later rework or maintenance, it is worth defining that beforehand: how easily the coating can be removed depends on the material and the coating process.

Starting data and criteria

What to define before applying conformal coating

The quote is prepared on the information available and sets out in writing the scope the selected manufacturer can take on.

  • Drawing, sample or specification of the board or assembly
  • Areas that must be coated
  • Areas and interfaces that must stay free
  • Material reference, if already defined
  • Expected working environment of the equipment
  • Coverage or thickness requirements, if specified
  • Need for later rework or maintenance
  • Initial quantity and expected later volume

Decision points

Documentation, sample and continuity before the supply is repeated

These three milestones turn an initial need into a configuration that can be ordered again without reinterpretation.

01

We define the areas

You state which areas must be protected and which stay free: connectors, test points, heat sinks or contact areas.

02

Coated sample

You validate the finish, the masking and the behaviour in your assembly or repair process.

03

Application to series

We fix the approved criterion in writing and coordinate deliveries keeping the same finish.

How we coordinate the supply

How we manage conformal coating

The critical detail is usually the masking: which areas must NOT be coated.

1

Starting documentation

Drawing, sample or photograph of the board, together with the areas to be coated and those that must stay free.

2

Process selection

We consult the network on which coating and which conditions fit your assembly and your volume, and what implications they have for the later assembly.

3

Sample and approval

When the project requires it a sample is prepared. You check the finish and the masking before committing to a quantity.

4

Recurring supply

The approved criterion is kept in writing and we coordinate deliveries keeping the same coverage and the same free areas.

Coordinated manufacturing

Conformal coating with specialised manufacturers

The right manufacturer depends on the coverage to be applied, the areas that must stay free, the material or requirement defined, the surface preparation conditions, the quantity and the agreed checks. We select and coordinate the one that fits that combination.

Do you need a supplier for conformal coating or tropicalisation?

Justicia Marin reviews the scope, selects the specialised manufacturer and coordinates the supply from your documentation and the requirements of the project. The coating is physically applied by the manufacturer; we centralise review, selection and delivery so that you work with a single point of contact.

What shapes conformal coating

Coverage — which areas of the board or assembly must be coated

Free areas — interfaces that must remain uncoated

Material — reference or requirements, when already defined

Preparation — surface conditions controlled by the manufacturer

Quantity and control — sample, repeat orders and agreed checks

From approved sample to recurring supply

When the project requires it, the manufacturer prepares a coated sample that you check before committing to a quantity. From then on we keep the approved coverage and free areas between orders, so that repeating the supply does not depend on reinterpreting the specification.

Justicia Marin does not apply the coating in facilities of its own: we review the scope, select the manufacturer and coordinate the supply. If the board is part of a larger assembly, it is handled as custom electromechanical assemblies.

What this service actually covers

The coating is applied by a specialised manufacturer in the network; Justicia Marin coordinates and verifies. We do not attribute a specific protection rating or a standardised resistance to this process in a generic way: the real behaviour depends on the material, the thickness and the masking, and is defined for each project in the quote.
